We include study of the digestion and the enteric nervous system. We explore how our organs respond to emotions and stress (the intelligence of the belly). This is important for holistic well-being and for abdominal health.
The treatment helps improve digestion, reducing inflammation and promoting healthy function. In turn, this is beneficial not only for digestion but also fertility, menstrual issues and the peri-menopause. It also supports the integrity of the pelvic floor.
Focusing on the abdominal and pelvic organs, it is a deeply relaxing and restoring treatment. It promotes a sense of peace, calm, and wellbeing.
It is particularly relevant for those who hold anxiety or emotional issues as tension in the abdomen. It is also suitable for IBS and children with stress tummy ache. It is beneficial for those who are less mobile. They may experience slow digestive motility. This includes older adults or those with paraplegia.
Abdominal massage is beneficial at any time in our life. It guides us to tune into the very centre of our being. This connection is on a deeper level, and can be very grounding and healing.
You learn self care techniques for you. You also learn how to teach your clients to use these techniques to care for themselves. These are are drawn from the latest research as well as principles that reach back to ancient Taoist traditions. It’s particularly excellent preparation for the spring, which is the best time for detoxification of the abdominal and pelvic organs. During this time, the energy of the Liver reaches the height of renewal and detoxification.
Suitable for all levels of experience. It is ideal for beginners to professional massage therapists. This course is also of interest to those working in fertility, pregnancy, and birth. CPD certificate of attendance provided to qualified therapists. This course would be paired nicely with the Thai Hot Herbal Compress course. In that course, you’ll learn to make and apply hot compress to the whole body. This includes techniques for the abdomen.
Early Bird price £225 finishes 26th Sept, £250 full price thereafter. 50% discount if you have done the course before and wish to repeat for revision purposes.

Part 1: Discovering the Abdomen through Self-care massage.
We will be learning the essential techniques of abdominal massage by massaging our own abdomens at first. This gives us direct experience of touching deeply yet sensitively. We’ll learn how to soften through the layers of the abdominal wall. This will help us find the locations of the organs. We will use techniques to support the structural integrity of the lower back and pelvis, benefiting the pelvic floor. We work on this deep physical level but will will also discover the energy of the “Hara”.
We’ll reflect together on our experiences of massaging ourselves, and how this may transfer into our professional practice. We’ll discuss the kinds of issues our clients have, and how we can help them. We’ll learn to apply the theory of digestion and detoxification of the abdominal organs, and also fertility, menstrual issues, the menopause,
Part 2: Abdominal Massage techniques for Professional Practice:
Day two practical acupoints, Shiatsu techniques, Ampuku Hara Massage techniques, plus more about fertility and women’s reproductive health.
Day two theory covers the enteric nervous system. It explains how our organs respond to emotions and stress (the intelligence of the belly). We’ll enquire how this marries with the information our hands give us as we touch others. Connecting deeply with what we hold in the belly is important for holistic well-being as well as for abdominal health.
We’ll also discover ways to empower our clients. We’ll share selected techniques to care for themselves in ways that are appropriate and relevant to them and their lives.
More about Eastern Abdominal Massage:
Known also as Hara Massage, Chi Nei Tsang, and Ampuku, there is no clear delineation between Thai, Chinese, Japanese, or other traditional Asian styles. Each borrows from the other so that it is hard to define which is which!
The belly is a revered centre of personal energy in Buddhist cultures, we only need to see the likenesses of Buddha and his sometimes enormous belly to get an isight into this! Martial artists are familiar with coming from the Hara awareness of the Dan Tien or One Point area. Cultivating the power of this area is what eastern martial disciplines rely upon for effectiveness. It is the centre of our energy from where our instinctive responses stem, a place where we connect to ourselves, away from the chatter of the mind.
This course not only earns you CPD points but is also a lovely opportunity to get in touch with the core of ourselves, to explore the belly and how to massage it deeply but safely & gently, with the due respect deserved by one of our most personal and powerful body areas. You will learn touch techniques to perform both on yourselves and on others, through the clothing and also directly on skin using oils or compresses.
Thai massage, Shiatsu and Chi Nei Tsang are incorporated. We learn about energy work and principles of abdominal massage that reach back to ancient Taoist traditions. Also about the importance of good digestion, and the enteric nervous system, (the intelligence of the belly), and how our organs respond to emotions and stress.
